Hyperbolic Space

16cm x 11cm x 7cm

Description

Crochet, doubling stitches in every row

Themes, comments and storylines

I worked on this piece while travelling, from London to Mexico City to New York and back home where I finished. It started with a reel of crochet cotton in shades of green that I bought at a car boot sale on the Sussex Coast. On a market in Xochimilco I bought nylon crochet yarn in shades of green and yellow to continue, crocheting while listening to conference papers in Mexico City and to music in the parks of New York City. Back at home I finished  with a last row of cream cotton from the local charity shop. As the shape grew it began turning into a brain-like and somewhat uncanny structure.
