Everyday Textiles in Your Life

 

I am a textile artist and researcher currently conducting a study into the role of everyday textiles in autobiographical memory and life stories. I would be very grateful if you were able to help me with my project. You can either fill in this questionnaire or use it as a guideline to the issues I am interested in and send me your stories written in your own words. This questionnaire is also available in German and Spanish.

 

I would like to ask you about ordinary textile items that are in some way extra-ordinary to you, because they carry special personal meaning. Maybe they trigger off memories or provoke strong feelings, positive or negative. By 'everyday textiles', I mean things like blankets, sheets, table linen, jumpers, handkerchiefs, socks, tea towels etc: all those items that in themselves might not be particularly interesting, attractive or valuable, but play a role, however small, in the story of your life.

Textiles cotidianos en tu vida

 

Soy artista de textiles e investigadora, actualmente estoy llevando a cabo un estudio sobre el papel de textiles cotidianos en la memoria autobiográfica y en las historias personales. Estaría muy agradecida si pudieras ayudarme con mi proyecto. Me gustaría preguntarte sobre artículos textiles corrientes que por alguna razón sean extraordinarios para ti, porque tengan algún valor personal especial.  A lo mejor desencadenan recuerdos o provocan fuertes sentimientos, tanto positivos como negativos. Cuando digo “textiles cotidianos” me refiero a cosas como mantas, sábanas, manteles, jerséis, pañuelos, calcetines, etc.: todos esos artículos que en sí mismos no sean particularmente interesantes, atractivos o valiosos, pero que juegan un papel, por muy pequeño que sea, en tu historia personal.

Alltagstextilien in Ihrem Leben

 

Ich arbeite an einer Studie über die Rolle von Textilien in autobiographischen Erinnerungen. Um eine bessere Vorstellung vom Umfang meines Themas zu bekommen, sammele ich im Moment Geschichten in verschiedenen europäischen Ländern. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn Sie zu meiner Arbeit beitragen könnten mit Ihren Berichten und Erinnerungen.

 

Dieser Fragebogen ist lediglich ein Leitfaden, damit Sie wissen, welche Bereiche mich interessieren. Sie können mir aber gerne Ihre Beiträge in einem anderen Format schicken, zum Beispiel als Erzählung oder Brief - Illustrationen oder Fotos sind natürlich auch sehr willkommen.

 

Es geht um Alltagstextilien, also normale Allerweltsteile, die als solche weder besonders wertvoll noch schön sein mögen, aber für Sie persönlich von Bedeutung sind. Mit 'Alltagstextilien' meine ich Decken, Bettlaken, Tischdecken, Strickjacken, Taschentücher, Socken, Gardinen, Küchentücher usw., also all die Dinge, die an sich vielleicht nicht besonders interessant, wertvoll oder attraktiv sind, aber doch in der Geschichte Ihres Lebens eine Rolle - wenn auch nur eine kliene Nebenrolle - spielen.
